- Model: The Triumphes of Oriana, a seventeenth-century book of madrigals
According to The Definitive Biography of P.D.Q. Bach, Count Pointercount (an allusion to Aldous Huxley's Point Counter Point) commissioned contributions for a planned collection of madrigals called The Triumphs of Thusnelda, but P.D.Q. Bach was the only actual contributor.
One of the madrigals, "The Queen to Me a Royal Pain Doth Give," is available as a vocal score from Theodore Presser. The Biography says that Presser published the music with bowdlerized text.
